Iridium has 66 active satellites in 6 orbital planes with 11 satellites in each plane. Iridium’s pole-to-pole LEO network hovers 780 kilometers from Earth. This means their satellites have a shorter transmission path, stronger signal, and lower latency than GEO satellites. Each Iridium satellite is linked to up to four others creating a dynamic network that routes traffic among satellites to ensure global coverage.
